It has finally comes to an end. After what considered a long run, Cyanogen Inc., a startup based in Palo Alto, is shutting down all its services, including nightly builds.

This announcement has been made by the team itself without any warning! This leaves their 50 millions users, which they have proclaimed, in shock.

But CM did not leave just like that, the CyanogenMod team is working on an open source OS called Lineage. Yes, it will be using CM’s source code. They will eventually go back to where they have originated from, The Community.

A new website has come up for the Lineage OS. Here is what is on the site :

So, yes, this is us. LineageOS will be a continuation of what CyanogenMod was. To quote Andy Rubin, this is the definition of open. A company pulling their support out of an open source project does not mean it has to die.
