The game of baseball dates back to the 18th century. The ancestors that mostly direct to baseball is cricket and rounders which was a game brought to the US by colonists. The real founder of modern day baseball is Alexander Joy Cartwright. He was a volunteer firefighter and a bank clerk. He was the one who made all the rules. Such as: three strikes and your out, diamond shaped field, foul lines and he also abolished the rules of being able to peg someone with the baseball to get them out. You can also see why baseball has become Americas pastime because baseball was started so long ago and I also read that grenades for the military were made to be the size of the baseball because everybody was supposedly be able to throw a baseball far. This game was also how people got away into their own personal time. They could be so stressed out from work but baseball would take their minds off of everything. Although baseball didn’t gain popularity until the 1900’s, it was pretty popular in England. In England, it was called rounders and little kids would play it.
