“A failing society can never foster successful businesses”

A successful and profitable business is a consequence of a healthy and prosperous society and not the other way around. Thus, it becomes imperative if not necessary for companies to give back what they have gained.

Understanding this, McKinley & Rice, Noida, recently launched its corporate social responsibility initiative named Abhyudaya. Abhyudaya means elevation or prosperity which effectively encapsulates the essence of what the company is trying to achieve through this initiative. The initiative was launched by visiting Saksham, an NGO for the underprivileged children in Sector-31, Noida.

Saksham, founded in 2001, started withholding hour-long evening classes for a small group of Jhuggi Cluster dwelling children in Noida. They have since grown to become an informal school within the urban basti of Nithari Village with the number of children attending their school rising to a whopping 400. This exponential growth has now warranted a formal existence of a group that would sustain this activity.

The team lead by the CEO and the COO visited the NGO on the 18th of July 2019 with cartons full of books, clothes, shoes and other things useful for the kids. With the objective of augmenting the necessary infrastructure at the school, book almirahs, shoe racks, ceiling fans, etc. were arranged using the company’s CSR funds. Making it a collaborative effort for the team, big carton boxes were placed in the office premises to let people show their generosity and donate other useful stuff for the kids.

On reaching Saksham, the team was greeted by bright, enthusiastic kids from classes 3rd to 10th. The management was welcoming and had planned the launch event in advance. The team at Saksham assisted in unwrapping and distribution of goods amongst the kids. The CEO himself assembled the shoe racks and the almirahs. The team members engaged with the kids, with kids even reciting poems, singing songs and dancing with the team.

Saksham was chosen for the endurance it showed over the years in helping the underprivileged kids. Having started the engagement with Saksham, the association would go a long way and the company’s commitment to the NGO would only increase in the future.
