Week 10: Wednesday 11/01/17

CLASS CANCELLED, PLEASE FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS BELOW:

I will be providing codes for entering FLUX on Wednesday, PLEASE HAVE YOUR ENTRY (DIGITAL FILES/PHOTOS) PREPARED FOR REVIEW IN CLASS ON WEDNESDAY 11/8. THE DEADLINE TO SUBMIT IS FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 10TH.

FLUX entry guidelines:
• For each entry, you may upload up to 3 files
• Web & Interactive entries are required to provided a public, working URL
• To enter a project into multiple categories, you must purchase an entry for each category.
• There is no limit to the number of entires you can enter
• Only .JPG and .PNG files in RGB are accepted
• Files must be smaller than 10MB
• Images must be a minimum of 500 pixels wide by 500 pixels tall and a MAXIMUM of 1500 pixels wide by 1500 pixels tall
• File names should include the entry title, image number (01, 02, 03) and contain NO spaces. Please use underscores. (ex. title_01.png)
• Physical entries will not be accepted

Please bring what is due this week to class on Wednesday, 11/08:
• Revised portfolio spreads for two projects (one previous, one new)
• 4 revised rationales + 2 new rationales typed with credits in Medium (50 words or less)
• Thesis: Convo/crits based on individual schedules
• Thesis + Portfolio: more developed/specific personal schedules
• Thesis: Present three ideas for the final form your thesis will become — hopefully we can narrow it down to one or two possibilities to move forward with.

Week 9: Wednesday 10/25/17

DUE:
• Portfolio spreads for one project, photos, grid system, typography experimentations
• 4 rationales typed with credits in Medium (50 words or less)
• Thesis research/interviews… what is out there on your topic with existing successful design?
• 5 layout options for logo on portfolio book cover

DUE 11/1:

DUE:
• Personal Branding — first finish of letterhead/business card/envelope, final paper, highest quality printing, trimmed/assembled using impeccable craft! Multiple versions encouraged, try adding social media handles to contact info!

• Bring in ALL previous work you are considering for your final portfolio (12–15 pieces), in printed form
• List of potential ideas/topics for thesis (look at your goals and all of your existing work to help you formulate your ideas!)

Week 3: Wednesday 9/13/17

DUE:
• Personal branding — initial design explorations: letterhead, business card, envelope, at this point we still want variety and quantity! Experiment! Document lots of trials in your process!
• Cover letter text — write a cover letter for an ACTUAL job posting you’d like to apply for, include the job posting and your initial copy in your process!

Introduce Studio Visit Report

DUE 9/27:
Return Cover Letter edits
Bring in ALL work completed/in progress for portfolio — REVIEW
Personal branding — first finish critique (final paper! perfect craft!) please use high quality inkjet or laser output until the final design is approved to be sent out for production (business card).


Week 2: Wednesday 9/6/17

DUE: 
• Process documentation on Medium (add goals sheet)
• Where do you want to work: List of design studios & agencies in Pittsburgh (Nikki) and Denver/Boulder (Kat)
• All resume content organized with typographic hierarchy, proper punctuation, spelling, grammar, etc. PRINTED for proofreading
• Complete self branding brainstorming and 2 idea boards
*All of the above and all materials moving forward need to be documented on Medium in your process. I will grade process once a week on Fridays!
