Design Service Blueprint

In order to prepare for our proposal, we updated our design service blueprint to clearly outline when the journal would be used, who would use it, and how it would exist within the healthcare ecosystem. We clearly laid out the hierarchy of how health care facilities, doctors, and patients would interact with Carefull. A main change in our blueprint is reframing Carefull as an initiative over the individual print journals. By doing so, we can propose that Carefull can be extended to other healthcare systems and accommodate other diagnoses.

Branding

We reframed our branding to be more friendly and approachable for our audience. We focused in on a type of style that could be relatable and warm to older adult patients through a hand-painted brushstroke style. We thought that this style would be more inviting over our previous line drawing style that was more abstract.

Here are some earlier iterations we did exploring branding, before we settled on our final guidelines!

Spreads and Grid System

After assigning tasks, we moved everything to InDesign. We created a grid system, which helped with the spacing between text and how to add elements of navigation into our journal. During feedback sessions with Kristin, we got suggestions to decrease the spacing between our headers and body text. Also, making the body start on the same flowline was critical for how the journal reads. Through a more distinct branding system and navigation elements, our journal is able to convey a more humanistic and empathetic feel.

Teaser

Reframing our problem statement and defining where we fit into the healthcare ecosystem really helped us structure our teaser video. Rather than just show the product we made, we tried to focus more on showing why we think Carefull is important and how it can help older adults. See the video below.
