While we might all not have an online presence like Kylie Jenner (she just launched her skin care line and guess how many followers she has already on Instagram *I’ll leave you to do your research* 😄) we can still learn from how she and her family have keyed into having a massive online presence and used that to scale their products and companies.Currently Kylie Jenner is a self-made Billionaire and the process that took her to this status wasn’t built in a day or a year it all began with her mom and sisters.

More and more as I spend time online and try to get acquainted with various digital platforms am surprised at how people have built world class brands for themselves, products and even companies. Yet many people still approach this subject from the side-lines or totally ignore it.

Even though having an online presence /online brand can boost one’s chances of landing a job..

Take a cue from young celebrities especially in Hollywood whose parents have a large online brand that has penetrated the world you’ll notice that its easier for them to quickly have fame (eg the 2 Kardashian youngest sisters who have entered mainstream spotlight as a result of the success of their big sisters) since these young stars are building on their family name, so why won’t you and I leverage the amazing opportunity and start building our brands from the scratch.

This article isn’t saying you should have an online presence /brand for FAME

So in order for you to start your own process, the first thing you need is:

  1. A mobile phone or computer with internet connection.
  2. Then you can decide what you want your brand to be about this is called a Niche. Here’s a list of things you can build you brand upon to start the process of building your online presence:

i) Your chosen career field eg Human Resources, Coding, Medicine.

ii) Your passion which you can share through storytelling. eg fashion, music, skincare

iii) Your Hobbies eg cooking, movie review, writing, photography.

iv) A problem you’re trying to solve that can impact lives or a company you even trying to build.

v) Being a voice for people who have been wrong eg raped, an activist.

This list isn’t exhaustive and heck you might not even have anything figured out all you just have to do is start somehow, somewhere with what you have.

3. After deciding what you want to build, then you can pick a platform for the thing you want to do and also consider who your audience are and which platform they likely to be on eg

Medium — People that love to read and write.

Snapchat — For the young and trendy. Its also famous for its filters 😉

Instagram — For Sharing of visual content and creation of savvy businesses.Others are Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest etc. After which you sign up with your e-mail address and pick a username(a name you want to be known as online eg you first name, brand name or business name etc)

4) Then make your first post by writing, posting a picture, creating a graphic, creating a video etc and make sure you post consistently.

One final note though make sure your bio(ie a short note about yourself is interesting and tells people what you do)on your various platforms is well written as this is going to be the first impression people have of you.

Thank you for reading, hope you found it useful if so click the 👏 button and Remember its A PROCESS 💮 and consistency is a habit that would put you ahead of the game. Also don’t underestimate your potential to create. 😉
