What is Social Media?

It is a medium used by individuals to interact with one another regardless of location. It is a tool by which an individuals viewpoint can be expressed and can be either accepted or dropped by others

Forms of Social Media

There are three main categories:

Video sharing sites- Vimeo, Youtube etc

Picture/Video based sites — Instagram, Pinterest etc

All round — Facebook

Although in recent times the clear line separating them has become slimmer and slimmer as more functionalities are added to each site as the years roll by. So without much ado, lets jump right into building an online presence

An online presence is any existence of an individual or business that can be found via an online search

Step 1: Develop Good Content

This is key and the foundation for drastically improving your online presence. It is what will attract people like water draws a thirsty man. Good content speaks for itself and will always keep people coming back for more.

Step 2: Know your target

It is well known that you cannot please everybody and trying to do so will be an exercise in futility. Knowing your target audience will help you in tailoring your content to suit their likes and make it appealing to them. This will also determine which Social Media Outlet to make use of.

Step 3: Choose your medium of expression

Having content and knowing your target will strongly influence which medium you are to use. If for example, your content is a video-specific one, it is wise to use a sharing platform such as YouTube that has already been created for that purpose. Another piece of advice is to not spread yourself to thin. After picking one focus, work on it till your customer base reaches a certain level before branching out into other forms

Step 4: Link your profiles

If you have more than one online profile, linking them together will further boost your online presence. This can be done by adding sharing buttons, like buttons etc in all forms of your outlook by ensuring once they find one- they have discovered all. “It is kind of like hanging out bait to juicy for them to resist ;)”

Step 5: Be Consistent

And finally, consistency is key. Keep your content coming out at a steady pace. It can be daily, weekly, monthly, whichever you choose, so far you can keep up with the schedule set. Being consistent also builds a certain level of trust and confidence in your ability to always deliver.

That is all for now, till next time 😄
