Making Sense of Astrology

Since time immemorial humans have looked up to the night sky, watched all those heavenly objects, and wondered about them, more importantly they have wondered upon it’s meaning. They invented various systems to understand them, Religion, Magick, etc, etc.

One such system is Astrology. Now, first lets try to understand what is Astrology. Some people call it an “Art”, some “Science”, some “Language”, and some even call it as “Pseudo-science”, “Superstition”, etc, etc.

I myself, used to teach students that, “Astrology is a technology derived from a group of systems, traditions, and beliefs in which knowledge of the apparent relative positions of celestial bodies and related details is held to be useful in understanding; it is also called as a Divine Knowledge.
Astrology deals with the study of cosmic celestial objects & events, and their vibrations & effects on the behaviour of people, animate & inanimate objects, nature & events on earth. Especially co-relations which cannot be explained by gravitation, magnetism, or other forces that are well established in Medicine, Physics, and/or other sciences.”

I came up with that definition when I was 23, at that time I thought I knew everything, (Well at-least more than a lot of other people), but, life and time teaches things, especially when you have a Saturn return.

Well now, 14 years after I started studying Astrology, when someone asks me about Astrology, I usually say, “Astrology is like a map, it shows you the different paths between your present location, and where you want to go. It is up to you to decide which path to take”.

Sometimes with fellow nerds, or geeks I add, “Or think of Astrology like a GPS, at every point you can know where you are on the path you are taking towards your destination, and based on patterns, like weather, or traffic, you can be notified of coming blocks, thus enabling you to take a different path. Or if not at the least let you stay updated to situation to control your anxiety when caught in a jam”.

Yet, after all these years, I realise now that in Astrology, much like it is in life, there is so much more to learn, so much more to understand, & not just rationalise; so much more to feel, & not just think.

And that we all come to a stage in life, when it isn’t about the answers we know, (They change, trust me, the answers change), it is about asking the right questions, questions that can help us drill deeper into something, to learn it better. To have the courage to unlearn what doesn’t work for us any-more, and to relearn what works.

With this in mind, I am today relaunching the Sense About Astrology blog, (More like starting a new journey), to explore, to understand, to feel, to make sense of what actually Astrology, and its allied subjects are. How to use them in a much more sensible way.

And hopefully, this along with my new weekly cartoon strip Roamer Baba, will be able to learn more.
