I see addiction as a brain disorder that can cause compulsive substance-seeking behavior despite harmful consequences. People with addiction may experience intense cravings for the drug or behavior and an inability to control their use despite knowing the adverse effects.

As a complex disorder, addiction might be caused by a combination of factors, like genetics, environment, and mental health conditions. It can affect anyone, regardless of age, race, gender, or socioeconomic status.

Addiction can damage the brain’s chemistry, structure, and reward system, making it difficult to experience pleasure from anything other than the addictive substance or behavior.

From my experience, one of the trickiest parts of addiction is dealing with withdrawal symptoms when we attempt to stop them. As these symptoms can affect the body and mind, they can make it hard to stay…
