I am Sri Harsha T.V, and I recently pursued an internship this summer at Oracle India as a Product Development Intern for Oracle Content and Experience Cloud (OCE) team. I would like to share my experiences of working with Oracle and also answer some FAQs related to my internship.

  1. Give us a few details about the company

Oracle is an American multinational computer technology corporation headquartered in California. The company sells database software and technology, cloud engineered systems, and enterprise software applications and products — particularly its brands of database management systems. In 2019, Oracle was the second-largest software company by revenue and market capitalization. The company also develops and builds tools for database development and systems of middle-tier software, enterprise resource planning (ERP) software, Human Capital Management (HCM) software.

2. Tell us about your official job title at the company

The official job title is Product Development Intern. I worked for Oracle Content and Experience Cloud (OCE) team. Oracle Content and Experience (OCE) is a cloud-based content hub to drive omnichannel content management and accelerate experience delivery. It offers powerful collaboration, workflow management, and development capabilities to streamline the creation and delivery of content to improve customer and employee engagement.

3. Could you describe yourself in a few words?

I have a keen interest in programming, which mainly involves translating our ideas into code and learning new technologies.

4. How often does the company visit our campus? What’s the selection criteria for candidates? What locations of work do they offer?

Usually, Oracle visits NITT almost every year for full-time employment offers. Oracle visited NITT in 2019–20 to recruit interns for the first time. Last year, the CG cutoff was 7 to fill the application. The location of work depends on the profile allotted to the intern. So it could be Bangalore, Hyderabad or Noida depending on the profile.

The selection criterions are bound to vary greatly every year based on the requirements of the company that year.

5. What were the steps taken by you to prepare for the intern selection process (What topics did you prepare)?

The steps to be followed for software development intern at any company is more or less the same. It is essential to have basic knowledge of Data Structures and Algorithms and have a firm grip on programming. Rigorous practice on online platforms such as Codeforces or Codechef will prove to be extremely useful.

6. How was the overall process from application till the interview?

An online test was conducted for all the students on Oracle’s portal, who met the required criteria. The online test consisted of various sections such as Aptitude, Computer Science related topics (mainly Data Structures and Algorithms, Operating systems, Database Management Systems) and English. There was a specific amount of time allotted for each section, and all the questions were multiple-choice questions. Students were shortlisted from this online test. Then there was a written exam where we were asked to write code for implementation (based on Data Structures). Students were shortlisted based on the performance. After that, we had two technical interviews mainly based on Data Structures and Algorithms and the projects and technologies mentioned in the resume. The number of students selected for internship vary according to company’s requirement and is not a fixed number.

7. How was your experience working at the company?

Because of the pandemic, Oracle decided to move the internships to virtual mode and reduced the duration to 6 weeks. Even though it was a remote intern, it was an enjoyable experience to work with new technologies and develop our application through those. My project involved technologies such as REST API service, KnockoutJS and Web Components. It is crucial to communicate clearly to the manager. He continually gives inputs about our performance and clarifies our doubts. A competitive programming contest and a hackathon were also organized for the interns, during the second week, under the guidance of the mentors. Friday fun sessions involving various games, quizzes were conducted to socialize with the fellow interns. Overall, the work atmosphere was great.

8. How to convert a Pre-Placement Offer(PPO) from the company?

It is essential to enjoy the work allotted and embrace the learning and not pressurize ourselves thinking about the PPO. A project is generally divided into multiple tasks, and a deadline is given to complete every task. It is vital to meet these deadlines and if possible, in advance. Again, it is crucial to communicate with the manager clearly. Ultimately what matters is whether you have impressed your manager or not.

9. Do you know any seniors who are currently employed at that company?

Yes, I know around four seniors from NITT working at Oracle. Their suggestions regarding the preparation helped me a lot during my second year to shape my skills.
