NFL Technology and Its Future
Everyone knows that we live in a world filled with technology. Wherever you go, technology is being used in some way; well the NFL is no different. Since its creation in 1920, the NFL has used various technological innovations and improvements to improve the game America loves and values; the most interesting and widely used technological innovations being virtual reality, tracking devices and sensors, and drones.
Without technological advancements in the NFL where would it be today? To help answer this question, think about what it’s like to watch a football game on television today. When you watch a football game, you are able to see the game from many different angles during replays which makes the game more fun to watch. If you’ve ever watched old NFL highlights from the 1940s, you know that not only was the picture not very good, but there were limited angles as well. Imagine not being able to see whether or not a fumble was a fumble, or a catch was a catch. Think about the happy and excited or frustrated and sad feelings you get the moment you see whether or not your favorite player fumbled the ball or made an amazing catch. This is just one aspect of how technology used by the NFL improves the game.
Virtual reality has become popular in the NFL when it comes to training. Players use virtual reality when watching their own game film to help them see things the same way they did in a game. By doing so, they learn more and it helps them better prepare for future games.
Tracking devices and sensors improve the game for both the fans and the players; making the fan experience better and making the game safer for the players.
Drone technology is another technological innovation that the NFL has used to improve the game. The NFL uses drones to get access to angles that they cannot access with standard cameras as well as for entertainment purposes like the Super Bowl halftime show or the Pro Bowl Skills Challenge.
