The NFL’s use of technology has made the game of football more exciting to watch and more interesting to follow from a fan perspective. The increased amount of cameras, and video replay are some of the technological innovations that have sparked this increased interest.

Cameras & Video Replay

Each NFL stadium has cameras all over to cover as many angles as possible. During game broadcasts, fans can watch plays from all these different angles during video replays. Being able to watch the plays from different angles keeps the fans engaged and keeps them interested in the game; especially if they participate in fantasy football. When you watch plays multiple times from different angles, you are able to see more of what goes on during the play. When it comes to plays that can be potentially controversial like fumbles, catches, and touchdowns, you are able to see what actually happens during the plays. In fantasy football, where players can lose or gain points based on the outcome of the controversial plays, it is especially important to be able to see plays from as many angles as possible so you can be sure of what happened.

As a fan and fantasy football player, when I watch the games, my eyes are glued to the screen during replays. I love being able to see every angle of the play and being able to see whether or not a fumble was a fumble, a catch was a catch or a touchdown was actually a touchdown; theres a special feeling of satisfaction I get when the truth behind a play in uncovered, even if I do not like the outcome. Without the many different cameras set up around the stadium and video replays, games would not be as interesting to watch because they could only be seen from one angle and fans would not get to see what really happens during controversial plays.

As more cameras are used during games and video replay becomes more advanced, it will become easier to see what happens during plays to the point where there will be no controversy about any play. The thrill of uncovering what happened during a play will still be present but the difference will be that there will be no doubt about whether or not a receiver made a clean catch, or if the ball started to come loose before a players knee touched the ground.
