I understand that anyone who is trying to make a living by presenting something to the public feels inclined to give them what they think that their buyers want. I suppose that erotica is a form of fantasy for many people, so in some respects it makes sense that the cultural norms about what sorts of bodies are worthy of fantasy can’t help but creep in. But after a while it starts to get boring — at least it does for me.

There are so many more important things about a man than the size of his dick, and when I routinely read dialogue that includes “Oh, it’s so big” as I often do as the editor of a publication that offers erotica, I can’t help but sigh. Big dicks are so unbelievably unimportant to good sex. Just as all sorts of other body parts can be sexy in any dimensions, regular sized penises (and even smaller than average ones) can not only do the trick, but also be attractive. It’s just playing into a toxic cultural narrative to keep reinforcing this trope that big dicks are better.

The cult of the big magic dick really needs to go by the wayside. It’s taken from porn and from patriarchal beliefs, more generally, where being a real man is correlated with packing a big one. Porn is entertainment and has little if anything to do with what actual good sex…
