Requiem

On the death of a relationship

--

Light slips under the door —
voyeur,
unwelcome witness
to shifting sheets,
the pillow pressed beneath her back,
fingers circling,
circling …

till a wail rises,
breaches the surface
with a gasp.

A canoe
caught in confluence,
broadsided by desire,
she rides the waves
and cries for him.
