Sensual is Changing
What’s going to be different and what will stay the same?
There’s a truism that the only certainty in life is change. Circumstances evolve, what we want shifts, and new things pique our interest. Putting out a Medium publication is no different, particularly when my available time to edit and run the pub has decreased significantly in the past few months.
My husband, James, is currently undergoing cancer treatment, and although he’s going to be OK, as you might imagine, it has turned our world upside down. It’s also helped me to reframe some of my priorities, and while Sensual is still important to me, it’s clear that I need to start doing things a bit differently — at least for the time being.
What is changing?
We’re in the process of becoming a more boutique publication with a small stable of high-quality writers who share their thoughts and experiences about sex, sexuality, and erotic relationships. The focus will be on essays that have a strong personal slant to them.
This means that poetry will not be accepted once the new guidelines change on December 20, 2024.
We’ve enjoyed the voices of our poetry contributors, but this feels to me like the right time to hone our focus and keep it centered on essays informed by personal experience or point of view.
That also means many fewer writers, keeping submissions to a core group of long-time contributors whose message is in alignment with that of Sensual. We are still determining who will be on that list, but I’ve already begun contacting some writers to ask them to participate in this new iteration of Sensual: An erotic life.
A more definitive list of writers will be available closer to the end of December 2024. If you don’t find your name on the list (once it is out) and wish to make a pitch for why you think you should stay on as a contributing writer, you can email me, Elle Beau, at sensualenchantment@gmail.com. As I noted above, there’s a lot going on in my life right now, and someone who is a great fit for the new iteration of Sensual may have slipped my mind, so don’t hesitate to reach out.
