For the past week or so James and I have been avidly watching Netflix’s How To Design a Sex Room. The host/designer, Melanie Rose, is a charming Brit with a cheeky sense of fun, an amazing gift for elegant design, and an intuitive ear for what her clients really want. We’re addicted! The fact that there’s always a cliffhanger doesn’t hurt either, but we also just really love the show and it inspired James and me to create a sex room for ourselves.

Some clients of Melanie Rose want a dedicated space to explore their kink sides, and some want a private oasis that is just for them. Other couples who hire Rose just want to beef up their existing bedrooms to be more sensual and conducive to amore. Although James and I do own some kink gear, including a spreader bar and a riding crop, we aren’t interested in having a room in our house that is just for that.

For one thing, we don’t have the space for a dedicated sex room, nor do we have the desire to explain to visitors (or our son) what’s behind that door over there. What we really want to do is make our bedroom into a sexier place, without it being readily apparent to others — inspired by the opulent designs of Melanie Rose.
