BIKE TROLLEY WINS COMPASSO D’ORO AWARD 2017
– THE FIRST SENTIER PRODUCT HAS BEEN RECOGNIZED FOR ITS DEDICATION TO THE HIGHEST CALIBER IN PRODUCT DESIGN EXCELLENCE –
I clearly remember, my first exam of Industrial Design History in the first year of my bachelor degree in Industrial Design at IUAV in Venice. Sapper, Meda, Stark, Castiglioni… I looked at all these masters with a mix of admiration and surprise; their different styles, materials, techniques — all united by the same Italian Design Prize, the first in the history of design, the less commercial and most celebrated one. The competition to win is intense.
INNOVATION, CRAFTSMANSHIP & FUNCTION TRIUMPH
The Compasso D’oro is renowned worldwide for outstanding design practice, and one of the most important design prizes. The prize values products for their innovation, formal quality, functionality and ability to last over time. Hence this prize is a phenomenal recognition — that’s what I remember when I felt it being so unreachable! But it has always stayed present in my mind during my entire designer apprentice… Now, seven years later to be standing in Milan in the “Temple”, the Museum of Science and Technology, with my own project a bike trolley, and receiving the exact same Compasso D’oro, it’s a surreal moment… and an absolute honour.
The fact of stepping on the stage in a double vest, as a product designer of the Bike Trolley and as the founder & CEO of Sentier, which founded almost two years ago having given birth to this product, makes me feel even more proud of the all the work done by me and my past and present team. It’s a privilege to have great partners like Industrio Hardware Startup Accelerator in this amazing, adventurous journey. For me this prize validates our mission and is a boost to keep even working harder on the new projects and products that we will release to unveil the full Sentier potential in radically improving the approach of urban mobility via bicycles and foster this great community around the world. Creativity in mobility is not only about big ideas, but about improving lives. We want to raise the bar on all fronts, break through barriers and make an impact in today’s cities and our customers lives.
SENTIER GOES EAST
Above getting the prize, receiving it means also something even more special, the chance to present Sentier and The Bike Trolley in a special exhibition, that will take place in the vibrant and energetic metropolis of Hangzhou in the coming week organised by the China Industrial Design Association.
“I will fly to China tomorrow and be able to bring Sentier to a country with such a long history and tradition of bicycles”. A truly modern city, where Italian design is admired and appreciated and the passion for, commuting, outdoor as well as adventurous sports is growing day by day.
I look so much forward to this journey ahead of Sentier in the coming months and thank everyone for supporting our venture.
