Good news! Our recent integration of Sentinel-3 mission made it possible to combine Sentinel-2 with a bit less detailed but higher frequency data — at European latitudes it is possible to get a new image almost every day.

Developing support for Sentinel-3 was not easy due to completely different technical parameters (e.g. NetCDF format instead of JP2) and significantly larger swath covered by the satellite.

You can access the Sentinel-3 imagery with EO Browser or Sentinel Hub WMS/WCS services.

Interesting facts about the Sentinel-3 satellite

Sentinel-3 is a low Earth-orbit moderate size satellite compatible with small launchers including VEGA and ROCKOT. It’s designed for a 7-year operational lifetime with 120 kg of hydrazine propellant allowing up to 12 years of continuous operations, including de-orbiting at the end of the mission.

The Sentinel-3 satellite offers its 21 optical bands at roughly 300m/pixel resolution.

The main objective of the Sentinel-3 mission (currently in ramp-up phase) is to measure sea surface topography, sea and land surface temperature, and ocean and land surface colour with high accuracy and reliability to support ocean forecasting systems, environmental monitoring and climate monitoring.
