Singapore, February 13th, 2024Uppsala Security has forged a pivotal industrial-academic partnership with Kyonggi University by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on January 29th. This collaboration, initiated by Kyonggi University’s SW Centered University Project Group, aims to enhance global cybersecurity education.

Under this agreement, Kyonggi University intends to enrich its curriculum with blockchain and Web3 cybersecurity topics, connecting students directly with industry professionals. The initiative is led by Professor Heeyoul Kim from the Division of AI Computer Science and Engineering. Professor Kim and a select group of students have already embarked on a visit to Singapore, engaging with various stakeholders, including Uppsala Security, to deepen their industry knowledge.

The essence of this MOU is to bolster cooperation between academia and the Web3 and cybersecurity industry, offering students hands-on work experience. Kyonggi University is keen on bridging the academic-industry gap, while Uppsala Security is eager to identify and nurture exceptional talent across Asia.

Uppsala Security’s commitment involves exposing students to real-world challenges and illustrating the discrepancy between academic learning and industry demands. This approach is designed to better equip students for their future careers by offering insights into making informed career decisions.

During their visit to Singapore, the students engaged in a knowledge sharing session conducted by professionals from Uppsala Security. The session offered an in-depth look into Uppsala Security’s operations, spotlighting their proprietary tools designed for the Web3 ecosystem. Among these are the Crypto Analysis Transaction Visualization (CATV) tool and the Crypto Analysis Risk Assessment (CARA) tool, both pivotal in conducting investigations and compliance projects within the Web3 domain.

Professor Heeyoul Kim emphasized the benefits of this collaboration, stating, “With this agreement, our students are set to embark on an extraordinary educational journey, gaining hands-on experience in the forefront of global cybersecurity. This includes diving into cutting-edge fields like blockchain and other emerging decentralized technologies — areas ripe for exploration and understanding. We are committed to fostering growth for both institutions through continuous exchange.

Adding to the discussion, Patrick Kim, CEO and Founder of Uppsala Security, remarked, “This partnership with Kyonggi University is a testament to our dedication to education and talent development in cybersecurity. By integrating real-world challenges into the academic curriculum, we are preparing students for the dynamic demands of the Web3 industry, ensuring they are not just ready but ahead of the curve.

The collaboration between Kyonggi University and Uppsala Security marks a significant step towards merging academic pursuits with industry expertise, setting a new standard for education in cybersecurity.
