This article is a continuation of the Uppsala Security Showcase series. The previous article covers the Crypto Analysis Transaction Visualization (CATV) and it can be found here.

The cybersecurity industry is built on the single most important resource: data. Every security company needs a robust database to store information on past and current threats. Without it, it would be very difficult to find a pattern or solution to prevent current and future threats.

The Threat Reputation Database (TRDB) was built by Uppsala Security having precisely these aspects in mind, as it leverages the power of the community and crowd intelligence to gather quality and real-time data within the cryptocurrency and decentralized space.

With nearly 56 Million indicators, the TRDB is the nexus of our decentralized ecosystem that stores information about the latest cyber threats, and it contains different data sets ranging from phishing sites to social accounts and crypto wallet addresses, all categorized into whitelist, blacklist or greylist data.

As a company specialized in cybersecurity, we leverage blockchain technology for many reasons, one of them being the decentralized data storage due to its high transparency and data immutability. This brings into the spotlight our belief that blockchain technology will be widely adopted and well used worldwide in the long term, and that when this happens, cybersecurity, defense, compliance and investigatory tools will become a must in order to succeed in the space.

What makes the TRDB special compared to other similar initiatives? At Uppsala Security, we believe in sharing valuable crowdsourced knowledge. Due to its decentralized nature, anyone is able to tap into the TRDB to leverage the stored data and at the same time to contribute to the Threat Intelligence by submitting the latest threat information and malicious links/address via our Sentinel Portal. This removes the need to build a database from scratch for your company, project or entity which can be highly costly and troublesome to maintain and build.

The TRDB is the backbone of our products and solutions. By leveraging the curated data sourced on a 24/7 basis over more than 3 years, our solutions have helped individuals and businesses worldwide to stay protected and in line with the latest Regulatory Compliance standards, including the Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Counter-Terrorist Financing (CTF) guidelines.

How can I benefit from TRDB as an organization?

Organizations are able to tap into the TRDB’s nearly 56 Million indicators through the ICF (Interactive Cooperative Framework) API. By using the ICF API, the TRDB can be integrated with any application framework to actively and digitally protect crypto assets or to retrieve threat intelligence data.

In the case of exchanges, these are able to protect their users from malicious actors and their wallet addresses (when transacting) or to ensure that users are withdrawing their funds to the correct address when interacting with other applications and/or exchanges.

Most importantly, with the increased focus on implementing stricter rules and regulation on cryptocurrencies in various countries around the world, exchanges are required to ensure that crypto funds which are transacted into their platforms are coming from legal sources. The integration of the ICF API enables the verification of data against the blacklist and whitelist information provided by the TRDB. This acts as a prevention method and ensures that the organizations using these tools are compliant not only with rules that are already applied in their jurisdiction but that when new regulations come into place, which is very likely to happen in such early stages of pioneering technologies, it does not affect the activity or organization in any detrimental way.

How can I benefit from the TRDB as an individual?

As an individual, you are able to protect yourself from phishing links, malicious websites, social scams and many more threats by installing the UPPward Extension, a free of charge extension available for Chrome, Brave, Edge and Firefox browsers that acts as a shield against the ongoing dangers that are ever so often met in the current cyberspace.

The crowdsourced nature of the TRDB enables users to not only benefit from the clear advantages of the UPPward Extension, but it enables them to also bring their contribution to the strength of this protection mechanism by reporting threat data and committing to its exponential growth. For this, we have also created and implemented an incentivized program that allows worldwide users to bring their contribution while earning Sentinel Points which can be exchanged to UPP tokens.

If you would like to find out more about how you can use and leverage on the advantages of the TRDB, you can send us an email (info@uppsalasecurity.com) and get a live demo on our products!

Uppsala Security built Sentinel Protocol, the first crowdsourced Threat Intelligence Platform powered by blockchain technology and A.I. Supporting the framework is a team of experienced cyber security professionals who provide an award-winning suite of advanced tools and services for Crypto AML, KYC Intelligence, Transaction Tracking, and Regulatory Compliance Analytics enabling organizations to protect their crypto assets from malicious attacks and scams while meeting regulatory compliance standards. Today Uppsala Security has over one thousand users including government organizations and leading enterprises providing crypto exchanges, payment services, wallets, gaming, and FinTech solutions.
