*Connecting to a node may take up to a minute or more. This inconvenience for users will be completely removed with the new protocol upgrade which allows for users to connect instantly to on-chain subscriptions without tokens being locked for every node that is connected to

BasedVPN is now available on Android and its APK file can be downloaded from the BasedVPN website at:

Users can opt to wait for up to a few more days at maximum for BasedVPN to get accepted onto the Google Play instead of downloading the APK file.

How does BasedVPN work?

BasedVPN is a beautiful in its simplicity and ease of user access, the complexity of wallet management and connection authorization is abstracted away. An account on Sentinel’s dVPN focused layer-1 chain is created for each user however users do not have to access their account and the account is automatically authorized to lock tokens with nodes and pay for bandwidth once a user has selected a desired location. User’s accounts are being pre-filled with tokens by the BasedVPN application developer.

BasedVPN has integrated both Wireguard and V2Ray nodes into the application, and makes a decision on the user’s behalf on which is the best node to connect to based on the user’s country (e.g for Chinese users V2ray is preferred). The connection path is randomized as of now as to prevent abuse of bandwidth where a user connects to their own node to increase their earnings. In the future node hosts will be able to set monthly subscription contracts with white-label application developers.

Simple Interface

With the protocol upgrade that is set to take effect before the 15th of this month, users accounts do not have to be pre-funded to be able to connect to a node and instead the users account will just be added to an on-chain subscription and will automatically be authorized to connect to any node that the subscription creator has already paid for, without the user being required to individually lock tokens with each node.

How will BasedVPN earn money?

BasedVPN’s revenue model will be focused on generating ad-revenue from in-app advertisements that will come into effect after the application has gained a significant amount of traction (e.g 100k+ downloads). As of now the application is ad-free and the BasedVPN team is paying dVPN node hosts for bandwidth in $DVPN. In the future as bandwidth expenditures increase it is important for BasedVPN to generate revenue in order to meet these cost obligations to community hosted dVPN nodes.

With the older Sentinel dVPN applications (Android) reaching over 1M downloads on the ETH network (2018–2021 beginning), we can expect the BasedVPN application to surpass the same number likely within a 6 quarters.

How does BasedVPN have an impact on the dVPN ecosystem?

Bandwidth from dVPN nodes offered to users on BasedVPN has to be paid for by the BasedVPN developer and 20% of this payment automatically goes to dVPN token stakers as a ‘network revenue’ incentive for providing security to the Sentinel Hub which is the backbone of the dVPN protocol as the hub acts an ‘on-chain DHT’ for connecting users and nodes together.

As of now nearly 100k $DVPN has been paid out to stakers from payments made for bandwidth on the network and this number will increase significantly in correlation to the amount of usage on BasedVPN.
