Sentinel is glad to announce that Mr. Edward Jacobson has joined the Sentinel legal counsel team. Mr. Jacobson is currently undertaking preparations for a pending third party analysis of the Sentinel token’s eligibility as a ‘utility token’ as per international standards and regulations.
Mr Jacobson is a partner at the law firm Jacobson Segal (HK) Limited, where he focuses on his Shenzhou practice on outbound corporate transactions from China. Mr Jacobson has advised a number of start-ups on corporate structure and general governance matters, including company formation, choice of entity and location of incorporation decisions. Following the rise of the cryptocurrency phenomenon, Mr Jacobson has turned his focus toward navigating the uncertain regulatory framework regarding Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs).
In January 2018, he was one of a contingent of specialists that met with the staff of the United States Securities and Exchange Commission to review the general application of existing regulations to ICOs and discuss possible future regulation of this burgeoning market.
Edward has a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Scranton, a Juris Doctor from the Widener University School of Law, and a LL.M. in taxation from the Georgetown University Law Center. Edward is a practicing member of the New York and Pennsylvania Bars.
Edward began his career at the United States Tax Court, followed by a stint at KPMG, where he served in its Washington National Tax Practice, focusing on the tax aspects of corporate mergers and acquisitions, with a speciality in consolidated tax matters. After leaving KPMG, Edward scratched a long held entrepreneurial itch, by owning and operating two restaurant companies in Washington, D.C. As operating partner, Edward was responsible for managing the finances, budgeting and strategy of the businesses, as well as handling all accounting, tax and legal matters.
Edward returned to government, joining the United States Department of Commerce, working as a trade analyst on anti-dumping cases from China, which led him to relocate to Hong Kong. While in Hong Kong, Edward has worked for an Italian-based patent administrator negotiating and drafting licensing agreements with primarily Chinese companies. Edward then owned and operated his own trading business, during which time he relocated to Shenzhen, China. In China, prior to starting his own law firm, Edward served as counsel at an American law firm in China consulting a number of domestic and international corporations and partnerships on a host of legal issues.
Please join us in welcoming Edward to the Sentinel platform. We look forward to working with him to navigate the uncertainty of rising regulatory pressures both internationally and locally. Together, we can ensure that Sentinel meets its legal obligations and provide an ongoing quality platform par excellence.
