Section 1: What is Sentinel? A $DVPN protocol

Sentinel is excited to share a significant change to the ticker symbol as part of the transition to Cøsmos. The strategy is to better convey the purpose of the Sentinel dVPN protocol in a more direct manner. As Sentinel was the first project to introduce the terminology of ‘dVPN‘’, the change in its native token’s ticker is fitting. Upon swapping and mainnet trading, the ticker for Sentinel will change from $SENT to $DVPN. The new ticker clearly conveys the project's specific focus area and stands out even while an individual is browsing hundreds of other tickers on exchanges. Sentinel’s recent marketing partnership further strengthens the narrative and adoption of Sentinel’s far-reaching technology from crypto to non-crypto users.

Section 2: dVPN is a loose term that Sentinel seeks to expand

A virtual private network is a software protocol that acts as a private bridge between a user and their desired location. A fully matured dVPN will be a vertical stack of fully censorship-resistant technology, including but not limited to decentralized DNS integration, directly incentivized mesh networking, and decentralized computation, all while protecting user data and privacy.

Sentinel’s goal is to emphasize that a dVPN is not just a VPN in the traditional sense. It is much more than that, and it will only expand as a term as Sentinel develops.

While the community might feel we are losing an important part of the project by moving away from the beloved SENT ticker, it is important to understand the significance of the DVPN ticker. The virtue of a SENTINEL remains the same and is not compromised by this transition. Sentinel remains Sentinel; the ticker simply attracts new interest in its products by more accurately conveying the identity.

Technology is somewhat a misleading term that pressurizes one to associate complexity with ingenuity. Oftentimes, the simplest tech is the best tech. The wheel, the fork, chopsticks, Bitcoin, and many others serve as examples of this.

Centralized VPNs solutions are an archaic technology that is infrastructurally maintained by centralized entities that act as gatekeepers and service providers to prying-eyes.

Traditionally, VPN services are operated by highly centralized and obscure entities, and the development capabilities required to create such services previously demanded extremely competent developers. Sentinel dVPN redefines the overall ethos of today’s ‘VPN’, as Sentinel changes the relationship that users have with the service provider and the entry that users have to access the networking technological stacks, which have intentionally been obfuscated and convoluted. If you feel the need to have a private network, you no longer need to consult with centralized contractors and clients. You, and your trusted social network, can spin a private network through Sentinel’s tech stack and allow trusted users to participate and receive bandwidth from this network. This is akin to the gunpowder revolution and just a further derivative of the CPU revolution. The entry into technological stacks that create robust networks of freedom naturally scale into the global social fabric.

Sentinel dVPN seeks to liberalize the process and methodology of creating and establishing a robust VPN network. This liberalization includes the businesses that create a VPN to the relationship of users with client-side services. Sentinel dVPN does not seek to deconstruct decades of research and development that went into Wireguard, Socks5, TOR, HNS, and other networking protocols that will be integrated with Sentinel dVPN and independent dVPNs built on Sentinel. Sentinel does not seek to reinvent the wheel; it only seeks to provide everyone access to the wheel. Sentinel’s target is the liberalization of tech itself; the process is the technology, not so much the engineering stack's underlying nonces. What good is a wheel, or the manufacturing of a wheel, if only 0.1% of people have access to such? The Sentinel dVPN architecture allows deep node pools to be created from all walks of life, culture, and skillsets. This gives low-resource actors a chance to compete with high-resource actors who have historically shown to serve our digital overlords while operating under the veneer of ‘a safe and secure VPN.’

dVPN seeks to cannibalize the false identity of the term VPN and replace it with a more fundamental truth. That truth: the more bandwidth nodes and VPN providers there are from individuals of different cultures and ideals, the less likely an entire network is to be compromised to one central power. Enjoy the ride. The ideals of privacy and freedom are in the process of reclaiming the nomenclature subverted by centralized entities, reoccupying the terms, and bringing virtue back to the power of the word.
