Day 54: Respect your Competition: do your bloody homework
The word “authority” it’s a strange word. We overuse it a lot.
“Work towards becoming an Authority….”
Go on… Become “an authority”
Look… he/she is the AUTHORITY in THAT Industry…
For example: I am a World Authority.
Yes: Meet me: The world authority in the weird and obscure topic of world authority in a weird topic of App Store Optimization. (how Apps Rank in the app store)
For real. I’m the GOD in the secret art of ASO ….
Yes. True Story.
No ego here.
VentureBeat. Forbes. The App Summit … they consider me : An Authority (
If app marketing was an art… think of me as a Colombian Picasso. ;)
But the ironic part → strange and always crazy issue with the obsession to become an authority is one:
We talk about becoming … but not about COMPETING towards achieving that status.
Yes. It’s time to SPEAK ABOUT OUR COMPETITORS and the amount of work required to become an authority.
That is what people don’t understand.
The amount of work required to become an authority it’s INSANE.
The amount of hours, of effort, of downs and ups, the amount of blog posts, cold emails, interviews, podcasts, early mornings, late nights, social engagement…. pitching, trying, crafting.
And all this, while you battle AGAINST your competitors.
If you want to be #1.. someone has to be number two and you need to be able to outrank, out perform the number one player in your market / industry.
That’s why I find funny when I see people ready to CONQUER their industry and they haven’t stopped and analysed their competition.
KNOW YOUR COMPETITORS
KNOW THEIR NAMES
KNOW THEIR EMAILS
WHAT THEY HAVE FOR BREAKFAST
KNOW THEIR STRATEGY
READ THEIR CONTENT
READ THEIR COMMENTS
FOLLOW THEM
TALK TO THEM
UNDERSTAND THEM….
RESPECT THEM
and Beat them.
