2 Startups Personalizing Your Nutrition Plans

Emerging technologies allow new business opportunities to thrive. Personalization is one of those opportunities, and it is getting better by the day. We can already experience personalized experiences in our daily lives — through recommended Netflix series, relevant ad suggestions, to name a few.

Did you know nutrition is also an exciting field, where startups provide personalization as well? As Part 2 of this series of startups trends, introducing Nourished and Orig3n — 2 startups that are personalizing nutrition to the future and beyond.

Nourished

What if you could 3D print your own vitamins? Nourished from the UK is doing just that. Simply fill in your preferences and receive a 7 ingredient, sugar-free, layered personalized stack that looks just like candy.

There are a few ways to get started, why not try yourself? Nourished provides almost 30 different vitamins and supplements, or“nourishments”, split into groups based on the benefits they provide, whether it is boosting your immunity or raising your energy levels — Nourishment has it all.

There are 3 ways to apply for vitamins. The first way is to choose your existing goals, and make your own stack. Goals could be anywhere from boosting your immunity, to elevating your energy levels.

The second way is to pick the stack based on pre-made blends that cover a variety benefits, including immunity function support, sharpening cognitive function and much more.

Last but not least, and perhaps my favourite option, is to do a test and get a special blend stack of ingredients based on your results. All it takes is to fill in quick details such as your age, activity level and existing conditions to get your own personalised vitamin batch.

The service is a still at a premium cost-wise but why go through the hassle of searching for vitamins online — when you can order your own personalised vitamin stack right through Nourished?

International shipping is available, so jump in the fun and get started.

Genetics and DNA

What if your own DNA could offer you nutritional advice? DNA tests have been in the spotlight over the last few years, as more and more companies such as 23andMe, and Ancestry DNA, have been providing easy to use self-testing DNA kits. Information such as finding our ancestors’ origins can be learned from analyzing our DNA.

Despite there being debate on the accuracy of such tests,I do believe DNA analysis is something worth learning more about.

When it to comes to other ways DNA can offer us suggestions, Orig3n has found ways to use our data from DNA tests in order to connect the results and provide suggestions for our nutrition, supplements, and much more.

Orig3n

Orig3n is a startup from the United States that specializes in providing DNA test kits and personalized vitamins. I was amazed by the variety of different DNA tests they provide. The company offers a few tests such as fitness, nutrition, as well as hair and skin condition analysis.

Fitness DNA test, for example, can check how your genes may impact how fast you recover from exercise, their connection to muscle strength, and even effectiveness of oxygen processing.

Nutrition DNA test, helps check not only how well our bodies absorbs and process vitamins, but also how we react to certain food and drinks such as alcohol, dairy products, and coffee.

Getting the results takes a few steps. First, order the DNA test kit of your interest to be delivered directly to your doorstep. Next, collect the DNA sample and send it back for lab analysis. Lastly and the best part, check your results online or through Orig3n’s very own app — where you will have a personal profile along with one-of-a-kind DNA results.

Conclusion

Personalization is getting advanced by the second as tech progresses. Thanks to improved personalization features, we already have access to custom nutrition and supplement suggestions by the likes of Nourished and Orig3n.

I believe that in the future we will have even more personalization options such as our own recommended medicine. Wouldn’t that make our daily lives better?
