Cantari # Prologue
I once saw a dead guy float past my viewing window.
My father’s science team at Star Point Three (SP3) discovered the first life bearing ‘Goldilocks’ planet close enough to Earth for human settlement in time/date stamp 2462 AD.
They named it Cantari, and it was in a planetary cluster, ten light years from Earth.
Back then, my brother Lars and I were kids, living on SP3 with our parents, who were entirely committed to their work.
In those days, sluggish vessels, only capable of one quarter light speed, still frustrated deep space exploration. The Star Point program was in its two hundred and thirtieth year, originally commissioned to mitigate human space travel limitations.
They originally purposed the massive industrialised Star Point stations as logistics and mining hubs to explore the region, exploiting its resources, hauling those back to Earth.
Eventually, when resources depleted and demand reduced, SP3 opened a small science base. We moved from our home on Earth to live among the stars.
Dad’s team was compact, and restricted by necessity to a discreet, secure corner of SP3 in what our parents otherwise considered a ‘wild west’ of sorts.
