Early the next morning, the children were on Annie’s bed, while she drank the coffee Melanie had brought her. Just like the night before, Annie enjoyed the company of the kids, again realizing how much she missed it. The children talked non-stop — about school, about sport, about friends. They talked about all the things for which there never seemed to be time.
“Mommy, mommy!” Annie’s son suddenly called out, “The tooth fairy was naughty!”
Annie noticed he had her purse in his hand and immediately realized what he had discovered.
“Why?” Annie asked exaggerating.
