“Captain”, after pausing for a moment, Captain Ed Hopkins said. “Can I have a word in private?”

Captain Kate Dixon could see her colleague was unnerved by something significantly troubling.

“Don’t underestimate Shain Thomas,” Hopkins said to Dixon. “He is ruthless. Unpredictable chaos is one of his trademarks. His demeanour might, at first glance, appear playful but that’s merely a façade. Menacingly twisted is the understatement of the year.”

“A manic laugh at times, cruelty, a casual disregard for social norms, and constant willingness to tease are all part of his personality,” Hopkins concluded. “Do you get what I’m saying?”
