I started joining hackathons when I was a penultimate year student. In the beginning, I had no ideas of what a hackathon was and I was like a blank sheet of paper. After participating in around 20 hackathons, I find myself improved a lot in different aspects and would like to make use of this article to encourage more students to join hackathons.
As mentioned in the previous article, there is not only one kind of competition named hackathon. In recent years, hackathon is not only for tech-savvy persons but requires collaboration between techies, designers, and businessmen. Based on my own experience, I will classify hackathons into four main categories.
Team composition is a very crucial factor to win a hackathon. As hackathon is a very demanding type of competition, usually within 48 hours, participants will need to hand in a decent presentation deck and a functionable prototype. Therefore, to complete the tasks more effectively, you need teammates with diversified background.
