Examining Sci-Fi User Interfaces

Hollywood has captured our imagination for decades through the lens of science fiction, as it dreams up future technologies and how we might interact with them.

Movies have a tremendous advantage when it comes to conceiving interactions and UI’s as they don’t have to be feasible, usable or adhere to fundamental design principles.

They just need to be cool and push the story forward.

But despite that,

what can real-world interface designers learn from the interfaces found in science fiction?

This is the question I’ll br exploring further with the help of Nathan Shedroff and Christopher Noessel's book Make It So.
