The frontman opened his account for Real Madrid in the side’s visit to Levante in the 2006/07 season.
This week’s instalment in our Historic Goals feature sees Ruud Van Nistelrooy take centre stage. The Dutchman, who checked in at Real Madrid in the summer of 2006 from Manchester United, was renowned as being lethal in the box, thanks to his predatory goalscoring instincts.
On Matchday 2 of the 2006/07 LaLiga campaign, Real Madrid travelled to Levante for a game that saw the Whites’ hitman bag his maiden hat-trick for the club. The goal that we relive here was Van Nistelrooy’s first in the club’s colours. Following a fine passing move, he was fed the ball on the edge of the area with his back to goal and turned, before unleashing a powerful effort that flew past the hosts’ goalkeeper and into the net.
Van Nistelrooy enjoyed a four-year spell at the club, during which time he made 96 appearances and netted 64 times, whilst he scooped the Pichichi Trophy in his first season. The striker also captured three pieces of silverware: two LaLiga titles and a Spanish Super Cup.
