Lala Dyal Singh of Lahore : non-graduate philanthroper who fought the British for the setting up of Punjab University.

Born to the noble Majithia family who gave army generals to Maharaja Ranjit Singh, Dyal Singh orphaned at 6, inherited a large fortune.

He became passionate about the cause of modern education for Indians after getting exposed to democracy and other ideas on trip to Europe.
