Snapshots of a back yard rebuilt

We had a wonderful back yard. It had been pretty and symmetrical and well-conceived… twenty years ago. Now it was overgrown, overtaken by weeds, and two trees had fallen down over the winter with additional ones possible. It was time to rebuild our back yard.
