Top 5 Jason Clarke

Jason Clarke is an Australian Actor born in the year 1969, and from the city of Winton, which is in Queensland Australia. Clarke began acting in small film and television roles back in the late 90’s and continued smaller work until the early 2010’s when he broke out for his role in the true story film Zero Dark Thirty. Since then Clarke has been on just a role starring in blockbuster films in legendary franchises while also starring in some more independent films. He is someone that although has not many major accolades for his performances, continues to turn out big time performances and someday and probably someday soon will receive his due. These are his top five films:

5. Everest (2015)

Everest is a 2015 drama-action real life story about the disaster that hit Mount Everest back in 1996 and it’s hikers. It is directed by Baltasar Kormákur, while starring Jason Clarke (Rob), Josh Brolin (Beck), and Jake Gyllenhaal (Scott) with Sam Worthington (Guy) and Keira Knightley (Jan) in it’s supporting roles. The story is about two different groups, led by Gyllenhaal and Clarke as they climb up Everest, however after finally reaching the top, a terrible storm strikes and thus begins the struggle to get back down alive.

I enjoyed watching this film, but it is by no means perfect. I definitely would have enjoyed a little more screen time from Knightley’s character, especially at the end of the film. However the special effects are amazing in this film as are the performances of the actors especially Clarke. He is definitely the standout in this film, he has a scene at the end of the movie, where he truly gets to flex his acting chops, and get’s you as a viewer to have all kinds of emotions. Also throughout this movie, I almost felt like I was on the mountain with these guys, which is something that is hard to do from a directing/acting standpoint. I also wish I could go back in time and experience this movie in IMAX, as I think this would be a perfect movie for that. And while this movie is by no means perfect, it still manages to fight it’s well deserved way into the top five.

4. Chappaquiddick (2018)

Chappaquiddick is a 2018 true story drama about the incident that occurred in 1969, which is now mainly recognized as the Chappaquiddick incident. When a young woman named Mary Jo played by Kate Mara dies in a car crash, scrutiny follows around Ted Kennedy (played by Jason Clarke) who at the time was driving the car. The movie was directed by John Curran and on top of Mara and Clarke also stars Ed Helms.

This is another true story drama starring Jason Clarke to make this list (it won’t be the last either). I really enjoyed on how this film gives it’s audience an insight into the story, as I wasn’t alive during it and was pretty unaware of it to tell the truth. I though that the directed/storyteller did a great job as this movie almost had a documentary feel to it, and that is always good when your talking about a true story film. Also the performances were good, especially though from Jason Clarke, as he does all the heavy lifting in this film, and he comes up and delivers. I think that this is a film that not enough people will ever see though and that is really to bad, as it definitely deserves it spot on this list.
