Every game requires a series of loops and arcs in order to familiarize the players with the world they are creating and give them direction on how to play. The game that my group is creating is called Fashion Domination, and we are in the process of determining how to incorporate these components into our game effectively.

Now, before we move our implementation, I will provide a brief description of our current game. Our game, at heart, is a territorial game. Each player acts as a fashion house and is looking to dominate the world with their designed fashion trend. As such, our first version of our table-top game is pictured below (it is a very preliminary version, but demonstrated for your understanding):

Preliminary version of our board

In order to teach players how pieces can be put down and how the various components of our game work, we have been thinking about including a “testing round.” Our game is currently divided up into various seasons, in which points are awarded at the end of each season. As such, by providing a testing round that imitates what one entire season might look like, the players will have a firm understanding of our game mechanics.

Furthermore, looking ahead at the development of our game, we intend to introduce new features and mechanics for different seasons. As such, it will be necessary to show players how these features and mechanics work and have the ability to change the game play from the previous round.

As such, it will be necessary for my team and I to build loops into our game in order to get our players accustomed to new methods. We have not currently implemented these loops, but after reading the article we will have plenty to think about and implement moving forward.

Look to future articles and developments, and our final version of our game to see the implementation of game loops and arcs.

Lastly, my Sketchnotes are attached below.
