Onboarding is the process of integrating a new employee into an organisation. For a new colleague, it can be a make-or-break experience.

Onboarding can take place at various levels, including the organisation, role, and team. It should mainly focus on acclimatising the new employee in a new environment. This can start with introducing the organisations mission, vision, culture and values. Making the new employee feel welcomed, the guiding principle of the onboarding process should be based on empathy.

Having an onboarding buddy is really beneficial since it provides you with a point of contact. You’ll eventually figure out who to reach when you have a query or a worry, but starting with a buddy is always a good idea. What should be covered in a typical onboarding process

  • Introduction to the organisation mission, vision, culture and values.
  • Having a buddy — A go to person.
  • Onboarding sessions — covering organisation’s ways of working, domain or product/ project specific sessions, role…
