Scrum and other Agile approaches are changing how organisations pursue their goals. It started with a few isolated software development teams. And then it started to grow. The Agile philosophy makes sense to many. So much so that agility is no longer something for building software alone. Scrum for instance moved the focus from software to any complex environment where products are created with teamwork.

This inevitably has an impact on the managers and leaders of the company. Agile brings major changes to their roles. Teams used to receive instructions to create specific features according to a certain plan. Now teams are self-organising. They determine many things themselves. This calls for a different approach.

But what IS the impact on the managers and the leaders of the company? And how does the Scrum Master come into play, who’s a “leader who serves” (Scrum Guide 2020)? Let’s take a dive into the world of management and leadership.
