I feel for all the developers that have to work with Scrum. Or rather, I feel for all developers in the world. But, even more for the developers who are let down by Scrum.

Scrum (and Agile as a whole) promised to liberate the developers. It was supposed to be a new way of working that would break with the traditional approaches to delivery. It was an acknowledgement that software development isn’t the same as building a house or a car. Which calls for a different approach altogether.

But nowadays, many developers hate Scrum. It’s very easy to find reports of people who have suffered under the pressure of being part of a Scrum Team.

How can this be? How can an Agile framework like Scrum be so detrimental for so many people? Let’s uncover this together.

Good intentions

Scrum was one of the approaches that led to the Agile Manifesto. And all the promises it brought, with principles like:
