The Ice Cream Truck Experience

Squads goals are better than solo accomplishments

“Individual commitment to a group effort — that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work.” — Vince Lombardi

If you’ve been in the game awhile, the importance of teams shouldn’t come as a surprise. The Agile Manifesto only mentions the word team 3 times, but to put it in perspective, the principles are only 12 sentences. In the 19 pages of Scrum Guide (TSG), team is mentioned a 17 times. So, it must be an important concept to wrap your head around.

How hard will report-mongers resist removing this field in Jira altogether?

“The strength of the team is each individual member. The strength of each member is the team.” — Phil Jackson

One of the signs that your team might need an intervention, and functions as a group of individuals rather than a cohesive unit, are statement like, “My velocity is 18 story points,” or “I’ve completed coding 20 story points, but QA didn’t finish their part.” These should be red flags. When there’s a slew of items sitting in the backlog already assigned to developers, that’s another indicator.

“Wait… which way are we going again?”
