Frog Sashimi is a four-step activity where the Scrum Team together inspects and dissects a complex problem, situation, bug, or challenge.

The aim is to inspect together so that the whole team can learn from it.

  • It’s cross-functional and promotes the integration of skills.
  • It develops a shared understanding and collective team ownership of something complex.
  • The team self-manages how to adapt.
  • It improves a group or team’s ability to address the root cause, not just the symptoms.

‘The Frog’ represents either a problem, error, bug, challenge, situation, defect, system. It stimulates curiosity, raises questions, and surfaces areas for further inquiry. It can also be used as a way to audit.

‘The Frog’ as a problem:
Frequent glitches and performance instabilities caused by routine product data updates.
‘The Frog’ as a (part of) a system:
Understanding the complexity behind the Webshop Checkout.
‘The Frog’ as a bug:
User experiences errors due to API returning unexpected responses.
‘The Frog’ as an emergent situation:
The impact of new government policy on privacy.
