So I tuned in to the live debate on ITV. I was considering not watching it and by the end of the TV ‘debate’ (sic) an hour later I wished I had not.

It was presented by Julie Etchingham who has previous experience at this political head-to-head with just the PM and the Leader of the Opposition involved. Another debate will take place on Friday with all leaders of the main political parties now involved. Now that should be interesting. This was not.

The format was that each answer would be 45 seconds long and any subsequent follow-ups had the same time limit. What can you say in 45 seconds? Perfect for the political soundbite and the political smear. Both of which were fully utilized by PM Sunak.

A faltering start by the PM but then those political “jabs” as Piers Morgan on Newsnight described them brought Sunak a win on points. Sunak nearly had a technical KO by his lie that Starmer and Labour would cost the British taxpayer £2,000 if they win the election on July 4th. It was a lie but as we know lies are difficult to counteract. Dirty mud that is thrown will stick just ask the previous leader of Labour — and now an Independent MP — Jeremy…
