Veterans: Call for Submissions!

Please forgive my tardiness. I definitely missed muster here.

Yes, Veteran’s Day has just passed. I had plans to work on this publication for weeks. A car accident derailed some of my work but when I hopped on yesterday and read riveting piece after riveting piece written by this nation’s veterans, I knew I had to get on it.

Brothers and sisters in arms, I am requesting the honor of publishing your stories: peacetime tales, war stories, and everything in between.

I want to feature the actual lived experiences of our nation’s veterans, not some Hollywood version or some political version used by some “side” for an agenda.

I want to be clear: Served is a nonpartisan publication that isn’t trying to push any agenda but the truth, as told by those of us who were there. We are also a part of the Boost program, for full transparency.

That being said, we’ll publish the genuine words of our nation’s veterans, which may mean some tough reads.

I’ve written about my experiences of being a female in the military just after the turn of the century, during the ‘War on Terror.’

I’ve gotten feedback in the comments from veterans from Vietnam to other female veterans. I would love to see each of them share their stories and publish them for wider reach and exposure.

Just like every other group that is exploited for political clout, on both sides of the aisle, the voices of actual veterans are frequently drowned out by special interest groups and politicians who have never served a day in uniform.

We need to own our narrative and tell the world the truth of what it means to be a modern-day warrior.
