Farmizen: Case Study
In the SDD India’s first event, Shameek Chakravarty, the cofounder of Farmizen shared the story of real-life Farmville.
Farmizen is a fun, social and enjoyable way to get clean, healthy, chemical-free fresh fruits and vegetables.
It connects the user with a farmer having farmland in the outskirt of the cities.

User Persona: Venkatesh
Small farm sizes combined with production, distribution and financing challenges make it very difficult to earn a living wage. (85% of Indian farmers own less than 5 acres of land. Average farm size continues to decline). Under financial stress, forced to adopt growing practices harmful to soil and environment.
Pain-points for small size farmland owners:
- Limited access to quality inputs, knowhow, technology.
- Up to six intermediaries from farm to fork, 45% wastage post-harvest, lack of cold chains. (Distribution inefficiency)
- Lack of access to adequate credit. Risk in value chain skewed unfairly towards the farmer.
User Persona: Shweta
The Urban Indian Consumers want safe & chemical-free, organic fresh produce, but there is a scarcity of supply.
Pain points cited by consumers, on why they don’t buy organic vegetables:
- Limited access to quality inputs, knowhow, technology.
- 60% - Can’t be sure it’s organic
- 46% - Not available/accessible

Community
Farmizen empowers the community for Farmer to Consumer, Consumer to Consumer & Farmer to the farmer. A chat group inside the app (interaction within the community) is curating knowledge of sustainable farming through peer to peer learning.
Technology Infrastructure
Crop Planning, Tracking, Workflow, Delivery Optimization & Inventory Management for efficient and new-age farming.
- Consumer App: iOs & Android, Crop plan and updates, Viral sharing, Community messaging, Subscription.
- Producer App: Android only, Smart To-do list for farmers, Farmer input capture
- Farmizen Analytics: Recommends the next actions for each crop in each bed, Generates task lists for each farm based on the package of practices.
- Crop Data Warehouse: Records 20+ parameters for each crop in each bed at frequent time intervals.
- Business Engine: Order management, inventory management, Delivery routing, Personnel, and asset tracking, Reporting.
Data
Crop growth and yield data v/s nutrients, weather, soil, adverse events, demand patterns, etc are helping in the optimization of supply chain & crop planning.
