Who are we?

Sesame was founded in summer of 2018 with a simple mission: provide quality direct-to-patient healthcare to patients across the United States at affordable prices. By partnering directly with independent doctors, dermatologists, dentists, and other healthcare providers, Sesame is able to offer some of the most affordable prices for healthcare in the entire country.

Sesame is one of the first big players in the online direct-pay direct-to-patient healthcare market. Put simply, we have created a product whereby users can search for local healthcare providers or services and book and pay with their credit card in advance. There are no hidden fees or surprise bills — and we put price transparency front and center.

Changing how consumers interact and utilize something as wide-reaching and fundamental to day-to-day life as healthcare is certainly challenging. Realizing our mission has involved building an e-commerce platform capable of responding quickly to new insights from the marketplace and allowing new and innovative ways to connect patients and healthcare providers. From quickly evolving to support telemedicine in the face of a global pandemic (https://cloud.google.com/customers/sesame), providing simple and automated payments to providers to dynamically surfacing the best appointments and prices for any given user in any part of the US, we had to overcome some distinct challenges and create novel solutions. Our superb distributed tech team is located across both the East coast of the US and Europe and they bring experience solving technical challenges from industries including travel, film, defence, healthcare, and online retail.

In this blog, we’ll aim to surface some of the more creative solutions that we’ve constructed and are proud of and hopefully inspire others to get on board with the Sesame mission.
