Meet the SessionStack Crew: Tihomir Galov, Full Stack Engineer
As we grow as a company new and interesting people are joining us on our journey of product analytics. With this “SessionStack Crew” series we’d like to present them because they are the reason SessionStack is alive, expanding, upgrading, and serving product teams across the globe with awesome insights.
In this post, we are happy to talk with: Tihomir Galov, Full Stack Engineer at SessionStack.
Who are you in your personal life?
I’m a 20 years old fan of life. Despite my work, I barely use any computers in my personal life. I even don’t have a TV at home. I like to spend my free time doing something interesting and exploring everything that surrounds me. That is why I train orienteering, and climbing, I also go skiing in the winter and play the guitar. To sum it all up, in my free time, I am everywhere, where people have fun.
Can you share a picture of you doing your favorite hobby?
This is a picture of me running to an orienteering race. The goal of this sport is to complete an unknown route in the wild, in the shortest possible time, relying only on a map and a compass.
How did you choose Fullstack Engineer as a profession?
Since I was a little kid I was always interested in Mathematics and Hardware. Furthermore, my father is an electrical engineer, so I grew up surrounded by cables and pliers. I actually remember one time, when I was 5 years old, my father forgot to take my toy and when we were in front of the kindergarten, so he gave me a small screwdriver and this thing became my favorite toy. Later, when I was in 5th grade I started going to competitions in Informatics. In 10th grade, I lended my first job as a Software Developer. Safe to say I knew, that I will be in the technology sector since I was small enough to fit under the table.
How did you find out about SessionStack and what excites you about the company?
I found out about SessionStack while searching for opportunities to develop my career in software engineering. I was hesitant at first, due to the fact I’d never heard of SessionStack, but when I met the team, I saw a group of people, devoted to develop a good product. After this moment I knew, that I belong there.
What do you think about product analytics from the optics of your position?
I think that it is becoming a more and more important part of our work. Now, when we have all that information about user behavior we must use it to make better products. When I first saw a demo of SessionStack, I was blown away by the opportunities this software gives you. That’s actually one of the reasons why I started working in this company. I just saw all that potential and the power that software such as SessionStack gives you. So, in my opinion, this sector will start growing exponentially in the next few years, and it’s only a matter of time for people to understand what is the power of product analytics.
What do you think of the SessionStack team, and the company’s culture?
The atmosphere in the office is really great and most importantly every person here has his own story and I can really learn at least one thing from every single one of them. I love talking with my colleagues, as every conversation is a lesson for me. And since I’m the youngest member of the team, it was great to see that I received trust and respect from them, from the very beginning, which really helps.
What advice would you give to people joining a scaling product company?
Working in those types of companies feels like the team is the Spartans in the Battle of Thermopylae. The whole world wants to beat you, but you just keep fighting every single day because, in the end, you know that you will win. Also, the small companies really give you the opportunity to develop as a software engineer professional. So my advice would be to always choose scaling product companies when you are young because they teach you not only to be great in your job, faster than the big corporations, but they also teach you how to be a team player. As one book says: “Stay hungry, stay foolish!”.
Tell us an interesting fact about you?
I am ambidextrous: I write with my left hand, but play bowling, play the guitar and shoot with a rifle like a right-handed person. If you are asking why I know how to shoot with a rifle, It’s because I was 3rd in ranking among the most promising biathlonists in Bulgaria (that was a long time ago though). So here you are, not one but two facts about me ;)
Bonus question. Would you share with us a fun meme?
