Marketing is All About Showing Up and Connecting

You can do it well without feeling like a con artist.

Do you love marketing your business? Most people who are NOT marketers by trade would tell you they don’t. Marketing and sales can feel slimy, because the perception is that you’re supposed to manipulate people into buying things they don’t actually need. Your business is built on the desire to help people — taking advantage of them is the last thing you want to do.

But a lot of people do need sex coaching. Don’t forget: you’re offering a highly specialized and valuable service. More than most, you recognize that importance of strengthening, exploring, and healing our sexuality; you would have a hard time finding someone who wouldn’t benefit from working with a sex coach!

You want to work with people who already see the value in what you offer: people who are actively searching for a sex coach. So when you promote your services, you’re simply making it easier for interested people to find you — a favor they certainly appreciate.

The right marketing mindset makes all the difference.

It also helps to change how you think about marketing. Rather than emotional manipulation, realize that marketing is all about relationships these days. More than ever, people value a genuine connection with the brands they choose.

You’re not tricking or coercing your customers and clients. Instead think of it as a process of getting to know them, letting them get to know you, communicating with them, building their trust in you and your brand, and finally, offering them something of value. Rather than thinking of yourself as pushy, think of yourself as helpful.

Marketing is all about relationships.

Despite its imperfections, social media has connected us in a way we’ve never connected before. It’s such an effective marketing tool because of how accessible it makes you to your tribe. Since the main focus is to build a two-way relationship, it’s important to realize that your audience wants to see you. They want to hear your words. They long to “peek behind the curtain” and get glimpses of your real life.

As sex coaches or as people interested in sex coaching, we can appreciate the power of connection and in building relationships. As entrepreneurs and marketers, we can appreciate how important this is for the health of our businesses.

Because when a client decides to hit the Book Now button on your website, they’re not only saying “yes” to your services: they’re also saying “yes” to you as an individual. When a potential client has so many options for a sex coach, their decision often comes down to this simple question: “Who can I see myself spending time with?”

Your personality won’t attract everyone, but it doesn’t need to.

Showing up and being genuine increases the Know, Like, and Trust factor in your audience. This factor (known as K-L-T in marketing circles) is what convinces your prospective clients and customers that you are worth buying from.

The easier you can make it for people to get to know you, like you, and trust you, the less resistance you’ll have in your marketing efforts. Consistently make yourself visible, even if you’re not sure that anyone is watching. Each opportunity to interact adds strength to the relationship between you and your next client.

Showing up is also critical when you’re working with a client.

When you’re in session with someone, you have to be authentic, you have to be mindfully present, and you have to create a rapport. These are all ways of showing up with a client and they are all necessary to develop a healing/helping relationship with the person/people in front of you.

The more you can show up in your marketing, the more your clients will trust that you’ll show up with them when they make an appointment. The way you approach your marketing should be the way you approach your coaching: with the best interests of your client as your primary concern.

Sexuality is a topic that is scary for many people. Developing trust is absolutely vital before someone can open up, share, and take in positive messages about whatever aspect of sexuality they’re struggling with.

Marketing isn’t a greedy plea for money: it’s a highly-visible invitation for the right people to get to know you.

Allow yourself to fall in love with the idea of connecting intimately with your potential clients. Show up for them and for yourself. You know you have something amazing and life-changing to offer, so it’s your responsibility to make sure people are aware of the option!

After all, there’s a great chance you’re the best possible sex coach for someone who’s out there looking, right now. How easy is it for that person to find you, know you, like you, and trust you? If the answer is “not easy enough,” that’s okay — but you have some work to do. Your clients-to-be can’t afford for you to hesitate when it comes to being seen.
