Do you have sex with the lights off? Maybe you do it because it’s romantic. Maybe you do it because you have insecurities about your body. Maybe you do it because it increases your arousal.

According to research by Utilita Energy, you may be doing it for a much more practical reason: to save money on your electricity bill. In a survey of 2,000 adults in Britain, one in ten people said they turn the lights off during sex specifically to save money on their electricity bills, and men are two times more likely to hit the switch while doing the deed.

“It would have to be an extended period of adult time to have a serious impact on your end-of-month electricity bill.”

But is lightless lovemaking really an effective way to keep money in your pocket?

Not necessarily, according to Utilita Energy’s spokesperson, who said “It would have to be an extended period of adult time to have a serious impact on your end-of-month electricity bill.”
