Are you afraid that your mate will cheat on you? The pitch of your partner’s voice may have influenced your perception.

According to research published in Evolutionary Psychology, if a man has a low voice, the woman he’s with is more likely to believe that he will cheat. On the other hand, men are prone to believe that a woman will cheat on him if she has a high-pitched voice.

Although this may sound irrational, study adviser David Feinberg said that these perceptions have everything to do with our hormones.

“Men and women will use voice pitch as a warning sign of future betrayal.” — Jillian O’Connor

“The reason voice pitch influences perceptions of cheating is likely due to the relationship between pitch, hormones, and infidelity,” he said. “Men with higher testosterone levels have lower-pitched voices, and women with higher estrogen levels have higher-pitched voices. High levels of these hormones are associated with adulterous behavior and our findings indicate individuals are somewhat aware of the link and may use this in their search for a romantic partner.”
