First, I want to start this off by saying thank you—for coming on this journey with us. We’ve built an incredible community that’s stood the test of time. Whether you’re a reader, a writer, or both, I’ve got to say, we’ve built this whole thing because of you.

We need your help to keep Sexography going!

We sincerely appreciate your Patreon subscriptions (feel free to chip in here for as little as $1 per month to help keep Sexography afloat, though $5 really goes a long way to help us out). Every bit helps.

We’re posting articles and updates on Patreon for free subscribers too, now, so even if you can’t afford to help out right now, subscribe, so you don’t miss a thing!

With Sexography’s previous updates, we’ve decided to do something entirely different. After many conversations, we made major changes so we can deliver the highest quality writing to our readers.

We’re still selecting the group of writers we want to continue with. It will make the publication more manageable, delivering a better community in the end.

  • This is an ongoing process, and we’re still speaking to writers. Reach out to Joe Duncan on Twitter if you wish to talk to him about it (Benjamin Davis is still around too).

As we’ve told many of you privately, we’re (mostly) doing away with a few writing formats that have come to dominate Medium:

  • Listicles
  • Sexual self-help
  • Brief overviews on a specific subject

Of course, every rule has an exception, and we will give due consideration to great writers who readers love and Patreons.

Why the Change?

We’re moving away from these because they’re cheap and easy—writers can (and do) churn them out rapid-fire without much thought. Most people are on Medium looking to be captivated by a story.

Readers are here (and paying to be here) because they want an alternative to big, mainstream news outlets and magazines. And they’re looking for writers they can connect with to make it worth their time and money.

They’re not looking for another Cosmo or news site where they can quickly Google and answer to a question and find it. We believe Medium readers are looking for something deeper, something richer. And that’s what we intend to deliver.

And that doesn’t happen when writers and publications unsparingly churn stuff out to make a living. It happens when we demand and accept nothing less than the absolute best, not from one another — but from ourselves.

We want the entire Medium experience to be better. And we have the talent to do it. We have some of the best writers on the platform. We’re daring to start something new with our incredible creators by asking them to give just a bit more of themselves.

We believe everyone will wind up happier in the end.

  • Readers, we hope you’ll appreciate these changes and welcome them as the breath of fresh air that we think they are.
  • Writers, if you’re really dying to send an article that fits the descriptions above, reach out to Joe Duncan on Twitter and pitch him.

New Slack Channel!

For writers, we’ve got a new Slack channel! Again, reach out to Joe if you’re interested, and he’ll get you set up.

As you probably know, we’re also doing relationships articles, too now. We sincerely hope you enjoy them.
