I was recently slowed down by pain in my back and shoulders because I slept in a hospital chair while my husband was ill. Chairs in a hospital room are called visitor chairs for a reason.
During my hospital visits, I received visits and calls from my younger relatives. They love my lack of mobility because instead of limiting their calls to twenty minutes, we talk until they get tired. What do they want to talk about? Their relationships. I am a relationship success story because I have been married, in their words, “forever-forever.”
They talk to me because I am never shocked by their antics, even when my Baby Boomer sensibilities are shocked. When they tell me about their deliberate one-night hook-ups, my job is to remind them to take birth control and to never raw dog it with a person they are not in a long-term relationship with.
